Anton S. Chmela, long-time resident of Garrison, New York, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 26, 2026. He was born on February 19, 1947 to Anton J. Chmela and Helen J. Chmela (née Benca). His parents were immigrants from the Czechoslovakian area of what was called at the time of their births Austria-Hungary. He, his parents and his sister, Helen A. Kent, moved from Yonkers, New York to Dix Castle on Route 9D in Garrison in 1953.

Anton was a classic car aficionado, avid reader and bibliophile. He loved gardening at his home with his wife. He had a very successful career as a mechanical engineer. He retired from General Electric in 2004 and then worked for Turbo Research Inc. until 2018.

He was a loving and attentive husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years Michelle A. Chmela (née LaLonde), his two children Patrick A. Chmela and Amanda M. Martinez Amador, his son-in-law Dennis and his two grandchildren Scarlett-Rose and Anton.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for immediate family and close friends.
