David A. Nairn, 81, husband of the late Linda Sue Nairn of Cold Spring passed away Wednesday June 13, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Nairn was born August 27, 1936, son of the late Andrew and Ruth Nairn.
He began his law enforcement career as the Town of Philipstown Constable. He continued on to the rank Lieutenant of the Village of Cold Spring Police Department and retired as the Chief of Police of the department until he retired after 28 years of service. You could also find him up on a roof pounding a nail or painting a house. He was a Mason with Philipstown Lodge #236 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Dave was a mentor for many local individuals seeking to get into the law enforcement field, as well as being able to inspire others in their daily lives.
Surviving are his sons Dennis Nairn, Richard Nairn and his wife Debra, His Daughters Linda Nairn and her spouse Thomas Beneway, Janet Trent and Robert Brewer. Also surviving are stepdaughters, Sheri-Lee Vathke, Lorie Etta and her husband Joseph, and Lee Ann Markey and her husband Jimmy. His Grandchildren Andrew Nairin, Marisa Thomas and her husband Ben, Christopher Trent, Ian Nairn, Thomas Beneway and his wife Krysta, Dale Beneway as well as Eric, Jenny, Michael, Emily, Sara, Stephanie, Joseph, Michelle, Steven. His Great Grandchildren Jameson, Florin, Rosalia, Mason, and Jiana. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Kim Olert, Karen Bodge and Kevin Moshier.
He was predeceased by his wife Linda Sue Nairn, and his sister Joan Moshier.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Dave’s caregivers Debra Nairn, Lolly Merante and Ray Fitzgerald.
Friends may call on Friday June 15, 2018 from 5-8pm at Clinton Funeral Home,21 Parrott Street, Cold Spring. A Masonic Service will he held at 7:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.
