Donald A. Ruckdeschel Sr., a lifelong resident of Newburgh passed away on December 13, 2020 at Elant in Fishkill. He was 92.
Born on January 12, 1928 in Newburgh to the late Robert and Murtle O’Dell Ruckdeschel.
A Graduate of NFA he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country during World War II. After being honorably discharged , he met and married the love of his life Mary Gruini. Don and Mary were married at Sacred Heart Church on November 6th, 1950. Together Don and Mary owned and operated a few local Newburgh business’s. They owned Mary Janes Dairy Bar and Pioneer Parcel Service. Don was a Standardbred horsetrainer and worked for New York Telephone prior to his retirement.
He was inducted into the Newburgh Fast Pitch Hall of Fame and was the past commander of the VFW Post 1161 for 20 years. He had the honor of going on the Honor Flight in 2016 with his son Donald Jr.
Donald is survived by his loving children; Donald A. Ruckdeschel Jr. and Gary Ruckdeschel of Newburgh, Loving Grandchildren, Jana- Lynn Calabrese (Rich DePaolo), Jessica Ruckdeschel ( Gregg Marinelli), Alyse Ruckdeschel, Don Christian Ruckdeschel and Michael Ruckdeschel. His Doting Great Grandchildren Jackson Marinelli and Matteo Ruckdeschel, and his loving sister Ruthann Cosman.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary on June 4, 2019, Siblings Robert, John , Gordon, William and Louise.
Due to the Pandemic Funeral Services will be held in the Spring at Goodwill Church in Montgomery where military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy.
