Evelyn Lahey

November 8, 1922 — February 1, 2018

Evelyn (Merritt) Lahey, 95, of Lake George, NY, formerly of Cold Spring, NY, Hopewell Jct., NY and Port Richie, FL, died peacefully at her home on February 1, 2018, in the company ofher adoring family.

Born at home on November 8, 1922 in Cold Spring, she was the daughter of Blaine Merritt and Christina “Edna” Denney.

On May 20, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Bernard James Lahey, and together they lovingly raised three children. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2002.  They were married for 57 years.

Evelyn was known for her homemaking skills and was always available to help and supply comfort to her extended family.

Early on, Evelyn was a member of the Cold Spring Garden Clubwhere she won many awards for her gladiolas and the Methodist Church Women’s Circle where she organized many church suppers and was famous for her potato salad and baked beans.  Evelyn and Bernie loved to tour on their motorcycle and were members of the Hudson Valley Retreads.  They were alsomembers of the National Campers and Hikers Association. They loved trailering and traveled all over the country with family and friends.

Evelyn is survived by her three children and six grandchildren:Timothy Lahey, his wife Nancy (Ranshaw) Lahey and their children Christopher and Jonathan; Janet (Lahey) O’Neil, her son Kellen and his wife Tamara, and son Grady and his wife Caitlyn; and Bethe (Lahey) Myers, her husband Bill and their children Liam and Fiona; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her siblings:  Leslie, Roland, Doug, Elsie, Eleanor, Jeannette, Bob, Ted, Richard and Bill.

Visitation and services will be held at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott St., Cold Spring, NY 10516, on Tuesday, February 6th from 6-8PM. Services will be on Wednesday, February 7th at 11AM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to High Peaks Hospice, 79 Glenwood Avenue, 2nd Fl., Queensbury, NY 12804.
