James F. Myatt a lifelong resident of Nelsonville passed away on December 18, 2025. He was 100.
Jim was born at Butterfield hospital on Saturday August 30, 1925, one of the first 21 born to the newly opened hospital to the late Harold and Agnes Van Tassel Myatt.
As a young boy Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing over playing sports. He was a member of the Coon Hollow Bowmen, a member of the Philipstown Rod & Gun Club and can be found boating and swimming in the Hudson.
Jim was very active in his adult life. He was a founding member of the Nelsonville firehouse in the early 1950s and served as its fire chief in the early 1960s and he was a police officer with the Nelsonville Police Department, member of Masonic Lodge No. 236 and a founding member of the Cold Spring Boat Club. He retired as a Senior Model Toolmaker from IBM in 1987 and still was known to tinker at his Nelsonville home.
In 1945, Jim married Jeanette Maddox and together in marriage they had three children: Joan,Jackie, and Jamie . In 1975 after his divorce, he married Velma Myatt until her passing and in 1996 he married Ruthie until her passing. He has outlived all three wives.
In 2005 he met Marie Gargano at the Philipstown Senior Center, and they formed a union that Jim loved. Jim enjoyed watching Nascar, a good western movie and surfing the internet for handyman videos and deals on tools.
Jim is survived by his children Jackie Gilligan and Jamie Myatt, 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. And his fiancé Marie Gargano.
He was predeceased by his 3 wives and a daughter Joan.
Funeral Services will be held at a later date at Cold Spring Cemetery under the direction of Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
