John Joseph Egger, 65, of Cold Spring, NY
John Egger had a way of making an impression wherever he went. He filled his days with the things that made him happiest: taking care of his dogs, spending time with family, tinkering with cars and motorcycles, and cooking meals that brought people together. You always knew you were welcome at his dinner table.
John spent 40 years with Metro-North Railroad, where he built not only a career but lifelong friendships and stories he loved to share.
For more than thirty years, John served as a volunteer EMT with Philipstown Ambulance Corps. Helping people wasn’t just something he did — it was who he was. If someone needed a hand, John was there, determined to take care of others in any way he could. That spirit carried through in his work, his community, and most of all, his family.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Egger; his daughters, Erika Egger and Jacklynn Sienty; and his grandson, Jayson Kitzweger, who brought him endless joy. He also leaves behind his sisters, Linda Farrell, Jo Ann Joyce, and Patty Burns; numerous nieces and nephews; and, of course, his two loyal dogs, Dita and Lio.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday, October 10th, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Clinton Funeral Home in Cold Spring, NY. At 5:15 p.m., emergency service personnel will gather to pay their respects while a brief service is led by Jay Johnson.
Following the visitation, there will be a procession led by the fire trucks and ambulances John proudly volunteered with, traveling from the funeral home to the North Highlands Firehouse for a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to follow the emergency vehicles in honor of John’s service and community spirit.
John will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and big heart. He loved deeply, gave freely, and always put others first. His presence made life brighter, and his memory will continue to bring smiles for years to come.
