Kathleen O’Connor, a proud lifelong resident of Cold Spring, NY passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2020. She was 78 years old.
She was born on January 21, 1942 in Cold Spring to the late Elliott and Jessie Phillips Hammond.
She graduated from Haldane High School (1959).
Kathleen’s love language, to anyone who knew her, was cooking and baking for family, friends, and anyone she wanted to bless. When she was old enough to begin working, she helped at her parents store, Hammond’s Grocery. After high school, she worked for Reader’s Digest but soon realized that starting a family was her top priority. She devoted her life to raising her children and as if five wasn’t enough, she babysat for other families, as well.
Many people would remember her from The Coffee Shop in Butterfield Hospital or Drug World or Dairy Mart. She also prepared the meals for the priests at Our Lady of Loretto Church for many years. She thrived in interacting with people and looked forward to serving them. In more recent years, she could be found on a daily basis, making the rounds in Foodtown and Dunkin’ Donuts. She “adopted” many of the young, local employees as her own and went out of her way to make them feel loved and cared for. She did this through baking goodies for them “just because”, it didn’t have to be for a birthday or special occasion, she did it out of love.
She was also a selfless caregiver to her parents, her husband, and more recently to her son. She tirelessly attended to their needs and loved them wholeheartedly.
She is survived by her loving children Christopher O’Connor (Bebe), Brenna O’Connor, Shawna Lindsey (Michael) and Tracie O’Connor. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Carolyn Harlan and Elliott Hammond (Judy). Judy was not only her sister-in-law but a true confidante and friend. Kathleen is also survived by her numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert T. O’Connor, Sr. in 2009 and her son Robert O’Connor, Jr. in September 2020.
