Kevin Matthew Lahey, June 22,1954 - November 26, 2025
Kevin Matthew Lahey, a beloved figure in the Garrison and Cold Spring communities, passed away calmly in his home on the morning of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the age of 71 as he concluded his courageous battle with cancer. His heartbroken yet supportive family was by his side.
A Life Dedicated to Craft and Excellence
Born in 1954, Kevin was hard working from an early age. While attending Haldane High School, his dedication was clear, holding jobs at local establishments such as Gus’s Antique Bar and the Mt. Beacon Ski Lodge.
His true professional calling began in 1972 at Glynwood Farm, the private estate of Linn Merck Perkins. It was during this time that he cultivated his expertise, earning a degree in horticulture from The New York Botanical Gardens. Kevin eventually became the esteemed head gardener and majordomo for Mrs. Perkins.
Following Mrs. Perkins' passing in 1996, Kevin channeled his entrepreneurial spirit and refined sensibilities into a new venture, opening The Main Course Etc. Inc. in Cold Spring. For 29 successful years, he ran the business, retiring only in 2024.
Kevin truly had a golden touch. The remarkable success of his endeavors can be directly attributed to his keen eye for beauty and detail, his unwavering demand for excellence, his unsurpassed work ethic, and his infectious love for life.
Kevin was handsome and charismatic, possessing an energetic spirit that he generously shared with the lives of those around him. He loved to sing loudly, belting his beautiful, clear voice that carried the emotion of his soul out into the world. He was an avid gardener, favoring colorful annuals, and you could always count on him for an artful, perfectly arranged bouquet. Nobody could throw a party quite like Kevin; the silver was polished, the linen starched, and the crystal sparkled. The food was impeccable, and the bar fully stocked. Whether he threw you a party, greeted you at his shop, or simply ran into you at Foodtown, he made you smile and feel better about the world. Everyone was drawn to him. The essence of Kevin was love and laughter.
Family and Legacy
Above all his professional achievements, Kevin considered his greatest blessing to be his true love, Amy, their family, and the beautiful home they built together in Manitou, overlooking the Hudson River.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amy, and their devoted daughters, Cyra and Kate.
Kevin is also survived by 7 siblings, Terrence (Connie) Lahey, Kathleen (Joseph) Percacciolo, Bridget (Joseph) Immorlica, Joseph Lahey, Eileen Lahey Dahlia, Joanne (Anthony) Percacciolo, Matthew (Melissa) Lahey. He is also survived by a Sister in Law Bonnie Lahey.
