Cold Spring

Lois Powers, a longtime resident of Cold Spring, NY, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024 at home, surrounded by family. She was 75. Born on December 8, 1948 in Yonkers to the late James E. and Victoria J. (Tolany) Powers, Lois grew up in Yorktown Heights and graduated from Yorktown High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Iona College, as well as numerous peer counseling certifications. Lois was proud to serve as a peer recovery advocate for the Mental Health Association of Westchester in recent years. She also wrote for the Putnam County News & Recorder in Cold Spring in 2011 and 2012. Over the years, she held numerous roles in public relations across a variety of organizations, including the government of Rockland County, NY.

She also officiated many weddings as an ordained Interfaith Minister. She sought out opportunities to volunteer in Cold Spring, and was a trusted mentor and friend to many people throughout her life. Lois loved her family and community deeply. She enjoyed spending time with her son and daughter-in-law, step-daughters, siblings, nieces and nephews, and friends. She was an enthusiastic and doting grandmother to her one-year-old grandson. Her door was always open to friends and neighbors, and she was quick to answer calls from those who sought her guidance and support.

She had a great appreciation for the beauty of nature, especially the Hudson River, and she took frequent walks along the river in Cold Spring. She is survived by her son Samuel Adler (Ariel Seiersen) and grandson Eli Adler, her sister Kathy Upham (Bruce), her former husband Joseph Adler, and her step-daughters Sara Adler (Greg Hutchison) and Emily Adler (Nathan Adams) and their children. She was predeceased by her brother James (“Jim”) Powers and beloved nephew Gable Erenzo.

A gathering in Lois’s memory will be held at a future date.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring, NY.
