Michael Bean, a longtime resident of Garrison, passed away on July 2, 2026 after an illness.
Born January 13, 1953 in Atlanta, Georgia to Edward Bean and Sophia (Williams) Bean, Michael grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and earned degrees in engineering and architecture from the University of Memphis and the University of Tennessee, respectively, before moving to New York City in 1980.
In Brooklyn, he met Roseann McLeod at a dinner party and they married in 1981. After moving to the Hudson Valley, Michael and Roseann raised three children who went through Garrison schools.
Michael worked for over 45 years in a variety of architecture and engineering roles, including with AECOM on the Second Ave Subway expansion, DMJM Harris, TAMS Consultants, Metro North, and the New York City Board of Education. Later in his career, Michael was a specifications consultant for Robert Schwartz and Associates and his own firm.
In addition to his wife, Roseann, Michael is survived by his sons Ted (Amanda) and Andrew (Nirajana), his daughter Catherine, as well as his brother Jim Bean, mother-in-law Catherine McLeod, and his brothers- and sisters-in-law AnnMarie McLeod, Marybeth and Robert Campbell, Donald and Ranyce McLeod, Keith and Maria McLeod, and Cathy and Ed Mariani, as well as his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his father-in-law Donald McLeod.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 8, 2026 from 5-8pm at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott Street, Cold Spring. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 9, 2026 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair Street, Cold Spring. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Michael's name to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
