Jerry "Jay" Varricchio

March 17, 1948 — April 20, 2021

“With Great Love comes Great Sorrow”: Devoted husband, father and grandfather, Jerry “Jay” Varricchio, 73, ended his journey on April 20, 2021, surrounded by his wife, Joan and his five children at his home in Cold Spring, New York.

Jay was born on March 17, 1948 to the late Louis and Gloria (Marchi) Varricchio in Peekskill, New York.  He married Joan (Mangan) on October 22, 1972 and together they created a happy and loving home in Cold Spring, New York.  In 2010, he retired from the IUOE Local 137 in Briarcliff Manor as the Director of the Apprenticeship Program.

Jay’s greatest joy was his family.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years Joan, and his five treasured children Lisa (Troy) McKiney of Waterloo, Iowa, Jed(Stephanie) Varricchio of Beacon, N.Y., Garett (Audrey) Varricchio of Cold Spring, N.Y., Bret Varricchio of New York, N.Y., and Megan (Paul) Cotter of Cold Spring, N.Y., Jay will also be remembered by his 15 cherished and adored grandchildren; Dalton and Riley Mumma, Michael McKiney, Morgan, Connor, Nolan and Will Varricchio, Juliet and Jude Varricchio, Wyatt and Graham Weppler, Nora-Jean, Diarmuid, Cormac and Clodagh Cotter.  Lastly, he leaves behind a sister Jill Varricchio (Jeffrey Klein) and a brother Louis Varricchio, with 14 of his beloved nieces and nephews.

His large family brought him his greatest fulfillment and happiness.  From Sunday dinners to barbeques at the pool to birthdays and holidays- he believed these moments together were the best that life had to offer.  If he wasn’t preparing a gourmet dinner party, you could find him coaching his young sons, painting, reading, playing golf, lots of golf… or planning his next vacation.  He was also an avid fan of baseball (New York Mets), football (New York Jets), golf and his all time favorite genre Western Classics.

Jay lived a full and wonderful life.  He was deeply loved, and very blessed. He was a  happy man and leaves a lasting legacy. .
